E.G.L. South Africa
The opening of E.G.L. in August 1980 gave the polished diamond industry a choice of laboratories in South Africa. The acceptance of it's credentials and the grading standards of E.G.L. by the factories and dealers world-wide allowed the company to very quickly become a major supplier of grading services to the industry here in South Africa. Most of the diamonds and tanzanite graded by E.G.L. South Africa are either exported or sold to tourists with the confidence that the grading given will meet the standards accepted by the industry world -wide.
E.G.L. College of Gemology
Due to the demand for training in the field of diamonds, diamond grading, tanzanite, coloured stones and the increase of the knowledge of the consumer it became evident that it was essential for the jeweller to enhance the skills and abilities of his sales personnel. The E.G.L. College of Gemology was set up to formally present courses to fill these needs of the industry.
Our Missions are :
To take the guesswork out of buying gemstones by providing diamond grading consultations and certificates to internationally accepted standards. Our customers are professional diamond wholesalers, retailers, manufactures and craftsmen in the gem industry. We do not sell diamonds and we are totally independent of any gem sales organisation.
To provide professional diamond grading education for those interested in diamonds and comprehensive courses in coloured stones for those who wish to enter the industry and for those persons already in the industry who wish to enhance their knowledge.
Our Services
Grading grems is not an exact science, rather an applied science or discipline based on training, competence and the experience of the gemologists. To maintain our reputation for accuracy and consistency we have defined criteria and standard procedures which are adhered to by the EGL laboratories.
