EGL COLLEGE OF GEMOLOGY

The formation of the E.G.L. College of Gemology

E.G.L. introduced diamond-grading courses in 1983. At that time investing in certified diamonds was very popular, however the public did not understand what investment grade diamonds meant or how to read a certificate. E.G.L. devised a short course which covered just enough for people to understand how diamonds were graded and how to read the certificate. In 1997 the course was re-written to cover formation of diamonds through to the actual practical grading and pricing of diamonds. Due to the demand for training in the field of diamonds and diamond grading, tanzanite, coloured stones and the increase of the knowledge of the consumer it has become evident that it was essential for the jeweller to enhance the skills and abilities of his sales personnel. The E.G.L. College of Gemology was set up to formally present courses to fill these needs of the industry.
